New Delhi: India is witnessing a “silent rise” in hip disability among younger adults in the post-Covid period, with orthopaedic experts warning that prolonged or indiscriminate steroid use during the pandemic may have contributed to a growing number of cases of avascular necrosis (AVN) and early hip arthritis.

Doctors say hospitals are increasingly seeing patients in their 30s and 40s reporting severe hip pain, stiffness, limping and difficulty in walking, with many eventually requiring total hip replacement surgery after the hip joint collapses.
